FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who needs Google? Here’s everything you need to know about neoclassical acupuncture, all in one place.

  • It’s a new and pioneering style of acupuncture, developed by Dr. Slate Burris. It works fast, and in most cases uses just one needle.

  • When you visit a traditional acupuncturist, they’ll often ask lots of questions about your health, then check your tongue and pulse before reaching a diagnosis. This all takes time.

With neoclassical acupuncture, you'll get a diagnosis in seconds, and don’t even have to discuss symptoms. Based on a brief, hands-on exam, your body will reveal what’s wrong.

From there, a single needle can create a positive chain reaction, and clear any imbalances.

As neoclassical acupuncture is a whole body treatment, this can effectively relieve symptoms of several health issues (e.g. stress, insomnia and IBS), all at once.

  • If you’re in Kent, only at Margate Acupuncture.

Henry was among the first in Europe to learn neoclassical acupuncture from its creator, Dr. Slate Burris.

In May 2024, Henry completed Advanced training in San Sebastián—making him one of the UK’s most skilled neoclassical practitioners, and the only one in Kent.

  • Far less than you’d think.

Acupuncture can be uncomfortable, yet the mix of Henry’s expertise, hair-fine needles and neoclassical method (that uses just one needle to pinpoint problems and relieve symptoms, fast) means it’s almost pain free.

Needle-phobic? Don’t worry. Advanced neoclassical experts like Henry can perform the same treatment without needles (e.g. using laser or touch methods).

  • Very. So long as you visit a qualified, well-trained acupuncturist.

Side effects are rare, but may include dizziness, drowsiness, aching and nausea.

Even then, risks are known to be less frequent and severe than many prescription drugs (e.g. opioids).

Of course, if you have any fears whatsoever, ask Henry.

  • Depends who you ask. Wikipedia* says yes, the NHS no.

We also say no. Not because of bias, but evidence.

By now, the sheer amount of research that shows acupuncture can help people—with anxiety, depression, IVF, chronic pain, insomnia, migraines and more—is robust and compelling.

And that’s before we even mention the 1,000+ people who have left Margate Acupuncture feeling better than when they walked in.

(*In doing so, the platform sparked uproar in the global medical community.)

  • Sometimes!

Though there’s lots of data to support acupuncture’s impact on a wide range of health conditions, the placebo effect can also give patients an extra boost.

For a long time, this glitch of medical science was seen as sign of failure. In reality, the effect is so powerful that people knowingly taking a placebo pill (for a migraine, say) can find it to be effective.

Our view: neoclassical acupuncture works. And if the placebo effect can make some patients feel even better, that’s great.

  • Absolutely.

Not only is it safe, there's research to suggest acupuncture can ease lower back and pelvic pain caused by pregnancy.

That said, if you are pregnant, tell Henry. This helps him adapt treatment to get the best results, and guarantee the safety of both you and your baby.

  • Acupuncture is perfectly safe for children. Research says the risk is similar to penicillin (where just 1 in 100 kids experience adverse effects).

As for the impact, there is promising data to suggest acupuncture can be effective for treating things like anxiety, hay fever and post-operative nausea in children.

  • Yes, but.

Access is limited, the bar for treatment is high, and patients often face a long wait. So much so, the NHS itself may point you towards a private clinic.

Also, due to the limited number of UK-based experts, the chance of getting neoclassical acupuncture treatment on the NHS is close to zero.

While Margate Acupuncture is not free, we do our best to keep prices low, and offer concessions where possible (e.g. for people who are low or unwaged).

We also build in savings for long-term treatment (e.g. 12 sessions for the price of 8), as well as the occasional discount.
